Her tenure at The Washington Post was spent covering several Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis along with basketball, football and other sports. Nichols joined ESPN at the beginning of 2004. Nichols worked as a journalist at TNT during this period, in charge of NBA broadcasts, including playoff games, regular season games or teams from the All-Star league. She also reported for TBS covering baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. This was the second occasion in the 42-year history of TBS that a woman was nominated out of more than 200 nominations.
